This could either be interesting or obnoxious, and I leave it to you to decide. The French Institute Alliance Française hosts these sporadic philosophical discussions (sometimes monthly, sometimes every two months, and sometimes every two weeks). Anyway, this is the last one this summer and the subject is: What is the role of education in society? Cost is $12 and coffee and wine are served — for FREE. It’s done partially in french, but I’ve been to these before and they definitely alternate between the two enough for it to be interesting to a non-speaker.
Café Philosophique
Monday, May 14th 6:30-8:30pm
Tinker Auditorium, 55 East 59th Street
Cost is $12 and coffee and wine are served.
Directions: Take the 6 to 59th Street.
It could go either way: you could end up talking about interesting things like Rudolf Steiner’s Anthroposophy, behaviorism, the inquiry method, etc. Or, it could end up being like the four years of the philosophy concentration I suffered through where I watched grown men and women mentally masturbate while shouting at each other and blushing (metaphorically speaking).
Either way, if you come prepared, you could make it interesting for yourself.
Afterwards you can stop by Burke in the Box and get delicious, but insanely expensive set of three sliders.
